Description

Duvadilan Retard Capsule SR contains Isoxsuprine (40mg) in a sustained-release (SR) formulation. Isoxsuprine is a vasodilator and smooth muscle relaxant that helps improve blood circulation by widening blood vessels and reducing uterine contractions. The SR formulation ensures a longer duration of action, requiring fewer doses per day compared to immediate-release forms.

It is commonly prescribed for vascular disorders and pregnancy-related complications where improved blood flow or uterine relaxation is needed.

Uses

  • Peripheral vascular diseases:

    • Raynaud’s disease (poor circulation in fingers/toes)

    • Buerger’s disease

    • Arteriosclerosis (hardening/narrowing of arteries)

  • Cerebrovascular insufficiency (reduced blood supply to the brain)

  • Obstetric & gynecological conditions:

    • Prevention of premature labor (as a uterine relaxant)

    • Threatened miscarriage

    • Uteroplacental insufficiency (restricted blood flow to placenta during pregnancy)

How It Works

  • Vasodilation: Relaxes and widens blood vessels, improving oxygen and nutrient supply.

  • Smooth muscle relaxation: Relieves uterine contractions, helping to prevent premature labor.

  • Improves circulation: Reduces pain, cramps, and cold extremities caused by poor blood flow.

Dosage & Administration

  • Typical dose: As prescribed by the doctor, usually once or twice daily, depending on condition.

  • Must be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew, as this affects the sustained-release property.

  • Should be taken at the same time each day for best results.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Dizziness, headache

  • Flushing (warmth, redness of skin)

  • Weakness, tiredness

Serious but rare:

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations, tachycardia)

  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)

  • Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty)

Precautions

  • Avoid use in patients with:

    • Recent heart attack

    • Severe bleeding disorders

    • Very low blood pressure

  • Caution in heart disease, glaucoma, and pregnancy (should only be taken under medical supervision).

  • Avoid alcohol as it may increase dizziness and risk of low blood pressure.

  • Not recommended for self-medication—should be taken only under a doctor’s guidance.

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
