Description

Levomac OZ Tablet is a combination antibiotic that contains Levofloxacin (a fluoroquinolone antibiotic) and Ornidazole (an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent).

  • Levofloxacin kills a wide variety of bacteria by blocking their DNA replication.

  • Ornidazole is effective against protozoa (like Giardia and Entamoeba) and anaerobic bacteria.

Together, they provide broad-spectrum coverage against bacterial and protozoal infections.

Uses of Levomac OZ Tablet

  • Diarrhea and dysentery caused by bacteria and protozoa

  • Gastrointestinal infections (e.g., giardiasis, amoebiasis)

  • Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Gynecological infections (pelvic infections, bacterial vaginosis)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Mixed bacterial and protozoal infections where dual action is needed

How to Use

  • Take the tablet as prescribed by your doctor.

  • Usually taken once or twice daily, with or after food to avoid stomach upset.

  • Swallow whole with a glass of water — do not crush or chew.

  • Take at the same time each day for best results.

  • Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent relapse and resistance.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Stomach pain or indigestion

  • Headache, dizziness

  • Bitter/metallic taste in mouth

  • Loss of appetite

Serious but rare side effects:

  • Tendon pain or rupture (due to levofloxacin)

  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

  • Seizures or nerve-related problems (tingling, numbness)

  • Severe diarrhea (may indicate Clostridium difficile infection)

  • Abnormal heartbeat or palpitations

👉 Stop the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop tendon pain, severe diarrhea, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Precautions

  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine — it increases side effects of Ornidazole (like dizziness, nausea, flushing).

  • Do not take with antacids, iron, or multivitamins within 2 hours of the dose (they reduce absorption of Levofloxacin).

  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, epilepsy, liver problems, tendon disorders, or heart rhythm issues.

  • Not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless strictly prescribed.

  • Avoid excessive sunlight exposure — Levofloxacin may increase sensitivity to sunlight.

  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or drowsy.
