Description
Mefque 250mg Tablet is an antimalarial medicine used for the prevention and treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium parasites. It works by interfering with the growth of malaria parasites in the red blood cells, preventing and controlling infection. This medicine is often prescribed to travelers visiting malaria-prone areas and to treat existing infections.
Dosage
Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For malaria prevention, it is usually started 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an affected area, continued during the stay, and for 4 weeks after leaving the area. For treatment, follow your doctor’s dosing schedule strictly.
How to Use
Swallow the tablet whole with water after food to avoid stomach upset. Take it on the same day each week if using for prevention. Do not skip doses, as missed doses reduce its effectiveness. If vomiting occurs within 30 minutes of taking a dose, take another full dose.
Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have any history of mental health disorders, seizures, heart rhythm problems, or liver disease. Avoid alcohol and other medicines that may affect the nervous system. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Not recommended for patients with a history of severe psychiatric disorders.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, stomach pain, and sleep disturbances. Some people may experience anxiety, mood changes, or vivid dreams. Serious but rare side effects include confusion, irregular heartbeat, or severe allergic reactions — seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
