Description

Megagliptin Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains:

  • Teneligliptin (20mg): A Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that improves blood sugar control by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin secretion and reduce glucagon production in a glucose-dependent manner.

This medication is intended for adult patients with type 2 diabetes, either alone or in combination with other antidiabetic drugs, to achieve better glycemic control.

Uses / Indications

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults

  • To improve glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient

  • Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, or other antidiabetic agents

How It Works

  • Teneligliptin inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme, preventing the breakdown of GLP-1 and GIP hormones.

  • Increased incretin hormone levels lead to:

    • Enhanced insulin secretion after meals

    • Reduced glucagon secretion, lowering hepatic glucose production

  • Helps maintain steady blood glucose levels without causing significant hypoglycemia

Dosage & Administration

  • Usually taken once daily, with or without food.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water.

  • Dose adjustments may be required in renal or hepatic impairment.

  • Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is recommended.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Mild headache

  • Nasopharyngitis

  • Nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort

Less Common / Rare:

  • Hypoglycemia (especially when combined with sulfonylureas)

  • Skin rash or itching

  • Dizziness

Serious (rare):

  • Severe allergic reactions

  • Pancreatitis (rare but serious)

  • Severe hepatic dysfunction (rare)

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use cautiously in patients with a history of pancreatitis.

  • Monitor blood sugar when used with other hypoglycemic agents to avoid hypoglycemia.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only if prescribed by a doctor.

  • Adjust dose in renal or hepatic impairment as advised by the physician.

Summary

Megagliptin Tablet (Teneligliptin 20mg) is a DPP-4 inhibitor for type 2 diabetes management. It helps control blood glucose by enhancing insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon release. It should be taken under medical supervision, with regular monitoring of blood sugar and adherence to prescribed dosage.
