Description

OMIFYL contains Omeprazole 20 mg in enteric-coated capsule form supplied in strip packaging. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) widely used to reduce excessive stomach acid and treat acid-related disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

How it Works

Omeprazole inhibits the gastric proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase) in stomach lining cells, leading to a significant reduction in acid secretion. This enables healing of inflamed tissue, ulcers, and helps relieve symptoms caused by acid excess.

Main Uses

  • Treatment of heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

  • Healing and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers.

  • Management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (rare condition with excessive acid production).

  • Relief from chest discomfort and damage to food pipe lining due to reflux or ulcer development.

Key Benefits

  • Rapid and sustained relief from acid reflux, heartburn, and ulcer pain.

  • Promotes healing of peptic and duodenal ulcers.

  • Decreases acidity quickly, reducing risk of future complications or bleeding.

  • Once-daily oral dosing for easy adherence.

Dosage & Administration

  • One capsule (20 mg) once daily, preferably before meals; swallow whole, do not crush or chew.

  • Dosage may be adjusted or duration extended per physician recommendation and clinical condition.

  • For best results, maintain prescribed lifestyle changes—avoid trigger foods, eat smaller meals, maintain healthy weight.

Safety & Precautions

  • Common side effects: headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, vomiting.

  • Rare but serious risks: low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fracture (with long-term use), or allergic rash.

  • Contraindications: allergy to Omeprazole or PPIs, severe liver impairment, use with nelfinavir (anti-HIV) medication.

  • Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult a doctor before starting.

  • If unexplained weight loss, frequent diarrhea, blood in vomit/stool, or persistent symptoms occur, stop and seek medical attention.
