Description
Thyrox 37.5 Tablet contains Thyroxine (Levothyroxine 37.5 mcg), a synthetic thyroid hormone that replaces or supplements the natural hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It plays a vital role in regulating metabolism, energy production, growth, brain development, and overall body functions.
This dose is commonly used as an intermediate strength when patients require more than 25 mcg but less than 50 mcg daily. It allows for more precise thyroid hormone adjustment based on blood test results.
Uses of Thyrox 37.5 Tablet
-
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland) – to correct low thyroid hormone levels, relieving symptoms like tiredness, weight gain, cold intolerance, and constipation.
-
Goiter (thyroid gland enlargement) – helps reduce thyroid swelling.
-
Post-thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine therapy – for hormone replacement when the thyroid gland is removed or damaged.
-
Thyroid cancer – sometimes used to suppress tumor growth.
-
Congenital hypothyroidism (in infants and children) – supports proper brain development and growth.
Dosage & Administration
-
The dose is individualized based on age, weight, thyroid hormone levels, and response to therapy.
-
Usually taken once daily in the morning, on an empty stomach, 30–60 minutes before breakfast.
-
Swallow with water; do not chew or crush.
-
Take it at the same time every day for steady hormone levels.
-
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one—do not double.
-
Regular monitoring of TSH, T3, and T4 levels is essential to adjust the dose properly.
Possible Side Effects

Heart conditions & high blood pressure: Dose should be carefully adjusted.
-
Diabetes: May alter blood sugar control; monitor regularly.
-
Bone health: Long-term high doses can weaken bones (osteoporosis risk).
-
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Safe with medical guidance; thyroid hormone is essential for the baby’s growth. Dose adjustments may be required.
-
Drug interactions: Iron, calcium, antacids, certain cholesterol-lowering and seizure medicines can interfere with absorption. Keep a minimum 4-hour gap between these and Thyrox.
-
Consistency is key: Avoid switching brands without consulting your doctor.
Key Points to Remember
-
Thyrox 37.5 is used when fine-tuning thyroid hormone replacement is required.
-
Always take it on an empty stomach for maximum absorption.

Do not stop treatment suddenly – hypothyroidism usually needs lifelong therapy.

Routine thyroid blood tests are necessary to maintain the correct dose.
