Description
Haemaccel Infusion is a plasma volume expander used in the treatment and management of conditions associated with low blood volume (hypovolemia) due to blood loss, shock, trauma, burns, or surgery. It helps restore circulating plasma volume, thereby improving blood pressure, tissue perfusion, and oxygen delivery to vital organs.
This infusion contains a balanced mixture of electrolytes including Calcium, Potassium, and Sodium Chloride, which helps maintain fluid balance, electrolyte stability, and osmotic pressure in the body.
Uses:
-
Treatment of hypovolemic shock (low blood pressure due to blood/fluid loss).
-
Plasma volume replacement in burns, trauma, and surgery.
-
Supportive therapy in circulatory collapse.
-
Helps maintain fluid and electrolyte balance during medical emergencies.
Dosage & Administration:
-
Administered intravenously (IV) only under medical supervision.
-
Dosage depends on patient’s age, weight, condition, and severity of fluid loss.
-
Must be infused slowly and carefully monitored to prevent fluid overload.
Mechanism of Action:
-
Works as a colloid plasma volume expander, maintaining intravascular volume.
-
Electrolytes (Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺) support normal nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and cardiac function.
-
Helps restore circulating blood volume, preventing organ damage from low blood supply.
Side Effects:
-
Common: Mild fever, chills, nausea, headache.
-
Serious (rare): Allergic reactions, skin rash, difficulty breathing, drop in blood pressure, fluid overload, electrolyte imbalance.
Precautions:
-
Must be used with caution in patients with:
-
Heart failure
-
Kidney disease
-
Electrolyte disturbances (e.g., hyperkalemia, hypernatremia, hypercalcemia)
-
Severe dehydration without monitoring
-
-
Not a substitute for whole blood or packed red cells in case of severe hemorrhage.
-
Monitor electrolytes, kidney function, and fluid balance during therapy.
-
Use with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding, only if prescribed.
Storage:
-
Store at room temperature (below 25°C).
-
Do not freeze.
-
Protect from direct light.
-
Keep out of reach of children.
