Description
Thyrox 200 Tablet contains Thyroxine (Levothyroxine), a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone. It is mainly used to treat conditions caused by low thyroid hormone levels, especially hypothyroidism. By restoring thyroid hormone balance, it helps regulate metabolism, energy levels, body temperature, growth, and overall well-being.
Uses of Thyrox 200 Tablet
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) – improves symptoms like tiredness, weight gain, constipation, and slow heartbeat.
Goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) – reduces thyroid gland swelling.
Thyroid cancer – given as supportive therapy to suppress the growth of certain thyroid tumors.
Hormone replacement therapy – for patients whose thyroid gland has been removed or damaged.
Dosage & Administration
The dose is individualized depending on age, body weight, thyroid hormone levels, and medical condition.
Commonly started at a lower dose and gradually increased.
Taken once daily in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30–60 minutes before breakfast.
Swallow with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Consistency is important – take it at the same time every day.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. Skip if it’s almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.
Possible Side Effects
Most people tolerate Thyrox well when the dose is correct. Side effects usually occur if the dose is too high. These may include:
Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
Anxiety, nervousness, or irritability
Tremors or shakiness
Sweating and heat intolerance
Headache and restlessness
Weight loss despite good appetite
Diarrhea
Muscle weakness or cramps
Difficulty sleeping
Rare but serious: chest pain, severe irregular heartbeat, or seizures. In such cases, medical help is needed immediately.
Precautions
Medical conditions: Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, adrenal gland disorders, or osteoporosis.
Drug interactions: Certain medicines (iron, calcium, antacids, cholesterol-lowering agents, diabetes medicines, blood thinners, etc.) may reduce or alter Thyrox absorption. Keep a 4-hour gap if taking such medicines.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Safe under medical guidance – thyroid hormone is essential for the baby’s brain and growth. Dose adjustment may be needed during pregnancy.
Lifestyle: Take on an empty stomach for best results. Avoid switching brands without medical advice.
Monitoring: Regular blood tests (TSH, T3, T4 levels) are needed to adjust dosage.
Key Points to Remember
Take Thyrox 200 daily, on an empty stomach.
